Executive Health Champion Award
 Leon
A. Gorman is the Chairman of the Board of L.L.Bean and
has been recognized for decades as an incredible businessman.
But what is so amazing about Leon is that regardless of how
much the company grew he never lost sight of the value and
importance of its people.Thirty years ago Leon started an employee wellness program at L.L.Bean. The program began with an onsite fitness room and a “heart club” focused on achieving healthy blood pressure and cholesterol levels. Through Leon’s support and commitment, our wellness program has developed and prospered over the years. This program has not only helped thousands of employees and family members improve their health and quality of life, it has also helped our company control health costs and keep health insurance affordable for our employees and L.L.Bean. Leon has influenced L.L. Bean leaders and employees through his leadership efforts, his actions and his lifestyle. He is a lifelong hiker, reaching the summit of Mt. Rainier and Kilimanjaro, and basecamp of the Mt. Everest Peace climb. He also recently participated in his 15th Beach to Beacon 10K. The efforts that Leon has championed to improve the health of our employee population have gone far beyond what he could have imagined. He has created a culture and environment at L.L. Bean that has withstood the test of time and has gone on to positively impact the lives of our employees and their families as well as many other individuals and organizations throughout the state of Maine. |
The Bill Whitmer Leadership Award
John Harris,
MEd, is Chairman of the Board, HERO and is
the Former Chief Well-Being Officer and Vice President Innovations of
Healthways, Inc., where he led Innovations. He was formerly an Executive
Vice President of Axia Health Management, which was acquired by
Healthways in late 2006.John was the co-founder of Harris
HealthTrends, an
entrepreneurial corporation specializing in the prevention of disease
and the reduction of health care costs, and served as its Chief
Executive Officer for over 18 years. Under his leadership
HealthTrends
grew from several employees to over 300, grossing nearly $13 million in
2005, and performing work in all 50 U.S. states and six countries. As a
founding member of HERO, John has provided leadership though his strong
voice and actions in moving the respect and credibility of EHM Forward
The Mark Dundon Research Award
 Dr.
Anderson, PhD, is Senior VP & Chief Health Officer at
StayWell Health Management. David embodies a tour de force of
leadership, passion and influence in advancing the EHM field.
David has published and presented where ever experts gather to
discuss health promotion and other aspects of and health
management and David’s portfolio of activities have always been
both a barometer for the profession and a bellwether of things
to come. It is no coincidence that there is a strong correlation
between what David has featured in his research, publications
and development portfolio and what has transpired in terms of
the growth of the EHM field. David passion’s and productivity as
a leader that has helped inform and shape the field; it is
David’s special gifts as a teacher and mentor that have shaped
the thinking and actions of past and current leaders in the
field.
